New Ice Cream Is Shop Coming to East Hampton

There will be ice cream in East Hampton Village this summer. Make that artisan-made ice cream.

The departure of Scoop du Jour on Newtown Lane in December of last year left the village bereft of an ice cream establishment for the first time in 26 years. Now, A La Mode Shoppe, a handcrafted, smallbatch, allergy-free ice cream operation, has announced it will occupy the once-popular Scoop du Jour retail space beginning this spring.

The husband-and-wife team of Marc and Sandy Roth are the founders of the business, which launched in 2015 with a flagship ice cream parlor on East 55th Street in Manhattan. The Newtown Lane retail space will be its second.

On the A La Mode website, the Roths describe their brand: “As longtime ice cream lovers, we didn’t want kids or adults with nut allergies to live in a world where they couldn’t enjoy the tasty treat of some sweet, delicious ice cream — so we did something about it.”

Manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility in the Bronx, A La Mode’s ice cream is guaranteed to be 100-percent nut-free, egg-free, and sesame-free. The company also offers gluten-free and dairy-free options.

The range of flavors includes classics such as vanilla and chocolate, plus a few more unusual ones: blue cotton candy ice cream with mini marshmallows, oat latte, pink vanilla, and rose ice cream. There’s also an assortment of fruity sorbets.

According to the website, A La Mode is the only ice cream product that the New York City school system allows to be brought into schools by students.

“At A La Mode, we pride ourselves on being all-inclusive and mindful of the growing number of people who have allergies today. Our goal is to provide children and adults with the delicious, joyful, and safe experience of sharing ice cream together,” Ms. Roth said in a press release. East Hampton is “a perfect location for our first venture outside of New York City.”

The Newtown Lane store will also have a boutique with infant and children’s apparel, toys, and gifts.
